![]() The sequel Nightshade (released as Kunoichi in Japan) was more forgiving, added a bunch of interesting mechanics and generally was fancier but the pure distilled simplicity & flow of Shinobi was lost in the process. Game was hard, demanded a lot from players (perhaps to much) early on but once settled it few games provide a similar feeling of zen-flow, almost feels like a combination of rhythm, puzzle & action, as you zip around the stage dodging attacks from multiple directions, execute perfect chains and kill bosses in one hit. Oof gigaton nostalgia bomb, loved this back in the day but looks like it never any more popular over the years, unlike many other lost darlings of the PS2.
